Students are learning to work with "sight words" or "high frequency words". These words are words
that your child will be exposed to many, many times when reading. If
your child cannot recognize these words, he/she will experience
difficulty reading. Many of these words are hard to sound out, for
example, the word "the". It is crucial that at least the first 100 most
frequent words be established in Grade 1.
